Navigating 425 km of slopes requires a careful selection to ensure you don't miss the very best of the skiing experience. We have tested and selected the routes that offer the best sensations, both in terms of their vertical drop and the quality of their surroundings.

The Mont de la Guerre and the Levasset run are our jewels in the Champagny sector. For a fun and "Disco" experience, Le Tunnel at Roche de Mio is a must. Finally, for long runs through the forest, we recommend the Mont Blanc or Pierres Blanches slopes.

2. Where to Stop for Lunch on the Piste?

The La Plagne ski area offers a multitude of gourmet stops, but we have selected for our guests the addresses that guarantee an authentic experience. Whether you are looking for a rustic atmosphere or modern efficiency, your choice of restaurant defines the mood of your day.

Among our must-visits, the Balcon du Bozelet at the top of Lovatière / Verdons Sud offers an exceptional viewpoint from a typical chalet in the Alps and serves great outdoor snacks. If you are skiing in the Montchavin sector, Le Sauget is our recommendation for a high-quality break. Finally, for those exploring the slopes of Montalbert, Le Fornelet is an intimate and warm choice for a stop-off.

3. Prestige Picnic: The Best Spots with a View

To fully enjoy the sunshine and fresh air, a picnic is an excellent alternative, provided you know the strategic locations. We have listed for you the designated areas that offer the most striking panoramas of the Vanoise and Mont-Blanc massifs.

The Lovatière Summit / Verdons Sud remains the most iconic viewpoint for a 360° lunch. For a more peaceful break, the Dou du Praz sector is ideal, allowing you to eat at wooden tables and watch the dog sled teams go by.

DID YOU KNOW?

A brand-new indoor picnic room has opened at Roche de Mio. You now have the possibility to eat in the warmth, with family or friends, around large indoor tables. Hot drink dispensers and toilets are available on-site. Very pleasant with a lovely panorama. We highly recommend it for days with poor weather.

4. Off-Piste: The Secret Valleys of Paradiski

The La Plagne domain holds hidden treasures for lovers of fresh powder, from the challenging slopes of the Bellecôte Glacier to the discreet descents through the larch forests of Plagne 1800. However, the wild mountain requires perfect knowledge of the terrain and safety conditions.

To help you carve your first tracks far from the crowds, we have selected the most iconic routes along with our advice on finding the best local guides to accompany you.

5. Anti-Crowd Strategy: Alternatives to Avoid Plagne Bellecôte

The Plagne Bellecôte sector is the domain's main hub. At the end of the day, it can become significantly congested. For our guests, we recommend three major alternatives to maintain total flow:

  • Option 1, known as Verdons Sud: This is the classic local's route. End your day on the Roche de Mio or Champagny side. Rather than heading back towards Belle Plagne and Plagne Bellecôte, take the Levasset run on the Champagny side which leads to the "Verdons Sud" chairlift. From the top of Verdons Sud, all runs lead down towards Plagne Centre, allowing you to easily reach Plagne 1800.
  • Option 2, known as the Cross-Country Bypass: To avoid the queues at the Colosses chairlift, use the Blanchets chairlift, then ski down past the Roche de Mio gondola mid-station. From there, continue down the blue run and glide left onto the cross-country ski trail that passes under the Colosses chairlift. Expect to do a few skating strides, but it’s the perfect little workout before heading to the sauna.
  • Option 3, known as the Shuttle Reflex: This is the secret Dakota Guide solution. If the snow front is saturated, don't wait in the lift queues. Take the free shuttle at Plagne Bellecôte. Get off at the "Rond Point" stop after a 2-minute ride, at the entrance of Rue de Constantine. You are then less than a 3-minute walk from your chalet.

Did you know?

Crowds tend to thicken after 3:30 PM in Plagne Bellecôte as skiers return towards Plagne Centre and Aime 2000. We recommend avoiding the Plagne Bellecôte sector after this critical time to ensure a wait-free skiing experience.

ADVICE FROM THE DAKOTA TEAMS

Be careful: if you choose Option 1 (Verdons Sud), do not miss the closing time of the Verdons Sud lift. If you do, you will find yourself stuck on the Champagny-en-Vanoise side. A taxi ride back around the mountain via Moutiers and Aime la Plagne will be very, very, very expensive.

6. Les Arcs Expedition: How to Enjoy the Opposite Side Without Wasting Time

The connection to Les Arcs is a magnificent adventure, but it can be  a bit time-consuming if you follow the classic flows from Plagne 1800 or Plagne Centre (Mélèzes chairlift -> Bergerie chairlift -> Arpette chairlift -> Vanoise Express).

Here is the strategic Chalet Dakota itinerary to reach the Vanoise Express in record time:

  • The "Arpette" Route: Take one of the inter-village shuttles from Plagne Centre or Plagne 1800 (3 min walk) and reach Plagne Bellecôte in less than 5 minutes. Head to the Arpette chairlift before it opens. Once at the top of Arpette, cross over to the Les Coches-Montchavin domain, take the Mont-Blanc run, and then head directly onto the Pierres Blanches run to reach the Vanoise Express.
  • The Dakota Advantage: This fluid route allows you to reach the Vanoise Express in less than 15 minutes from the top of the Arpette, putting you in Les Arcs by 9:30 AM, well ahead of most skiers.
  • The Return Advice: To enjoy the late afternoon light in Les Arcs without stress, plan to take the cable car back at 3:45 PM at the latest for a comfortable return to your chalet. If you are a bit late, don't worry. Your goal is to cross back to Plagne Bellecôte before the Crozat chairlift closes. Even if the Colosses chairlift is closed, you can simply take a shuttle back to Plagne 1800 / Plagne Centre (3 min).
ADVICE FROM THE DAKOTA TEAMS

Use the Yuge app to check real-time waiting times at the Vanoise Express and the Arpette chairlift before starting your journey across the domain.

7. Après-Ski: Village Life in Plagne 1800 and Beyond

In La Plagne, the day doesn't end at the last chairlift. Après-ski is a sacred ritual that begins on high-altitude terraces and extends into the intimacy of the village. Whether you are looking for the cozy atmosphere of an English pub just a stone's throw from the chalet or festive terraces where people still dance in their ski boots, every local has their favorite haunt.

We share with you our personal selection of the most authentic addresses to enjoy a craft beer or a hot chocolate when returning to one of our ski in ski out chalets.
