Guaranteed snow: high-altitude expertise

The snow records for La Plagne speak for themselves: according to Geo magazine, La Plagne ranks as the 7th snowiest resort in France, with an average of 5.24 metres of cumulative snowfall per season. This natural abundance makes our ski area a true sanctuary for winter sports, even during unpredictable winters.

The future of your ski holidays is equally secure. A study by Le Figaro highlights that thanks to Paradiski's high elevation (averaging between 2,450m and 2,700m in key areas), La Plagne is one of the few domains that will not face major weather shifts between now and 2040-2070. While lower-altitude resorts face uncertainty, we can reliably guarantee ski-in/ski-out access in Plagne 1800 throughout the entire season.

As owners, we see the difference every year: the geographical position of the Tarentaise and the protection of the Vanoise massif ensure cold, long-lasting snow. Whether you visit at Christmas or Easter, you benefit from a preserved environment and an altitude that transforms every run into an unforgettable, premium experience.

La Plagne, once again on the podium of the best French ski resorts in 2023

Where to ski this winter, at what price and with what probability of benefiting from good snow cover? To identify the resort that corresponds to your desires and your budget, we have gathered and sifted through the data of 200 French resorts in our six massifs, to determine a customizable ranking. Prices of ski passes - heavily affected by inflation -, size of the ski area, average snow on the slopes over the last ten years...

The La Plagne area is particularly well rewarded with a 3rd place for La Plagne, a 5th place for Champany en Vanoise and an 8th place for Montchavin les Coches and its chalets.

La Plagne, the most represented resort for the Beijing Olympic Games

January 2022

La Plagne and the Winter Olympic Games, it's a long love story

La Plagne sends 7 skiers and snowboarders to the Beijing Olympic Games!

Among other records, it is the resort represented in the greatest number of disciplines. This was already the case in 2018 for the Sochi Olympics (Russia) and it is still the case in 2022 for the Beijing Olympics (China) with no less than 7 headliners in 11 disciplines: Kévin Rolland, Tess Ledeux and Antoine Adelisse in freestyle skiing, Maxence Muzaton in alpine skiing, Ollie Davies in ski cross, Romain Heinrich and Margot Boch in bobsleigh.

Kevin Rolland, the skier from La Plagne, is the flag bearer of the French delegation

At 32, Kevin Rolland, the freestyle skier from La Plagne, will participate in his third Olympic Games. In 2014 in Sochi, he won a bronze medal in the halfpipe. His grandparents run a hair salon in Plagne Centre (where you can also see some of his haircuts) and a restaurant "Pépé & Cie", a pizzeria on the snow front of Plagne Centre.

Kevin Rolland is also a triple gold medalist at the American X Games in freestyle skiing in the superpipe events (2010, 2011, 2016), but also the 2009 world champion in the halfpipe (and vice-world champion 2011, 2019, bronze in 2017).

In 2019, Kevin Rolland set out on a quest for a record: the highest jump on an eleven-meter-high module. Kevin Rolland wanted to fly 22 meters. But his attempt turned into a tragedy: the fall was terrible and left him in a coma for three days. At the Grenoble University Hospital, his life was in danger as he was hit in particular in the lungs, ribs, liver, spleen, pancreas and brain. While he was fighting to stay alive, the skier missed the birth of his first son.

La Plagne, ranked 2nd in the 2022 ranking of the best ski resorts

Source: Le Figaro, December 10, 2022

Logically, the ski resorts of the Northern Alps (Haute-Savoie, Savoie and Isère), heavyweights of French and world skiing, constitute the largest contingent. If we push each gauge to its maximum (snow cover, altitude, price of the pass, number of slopes, etc.), they occupy by default the majority of the first positions in the 2022 ranking.

Formerly focused solely on alpine skiing, French ski resorts are now developing a multitude of activities in winter: hiking trails, snowshoeing, well-being, etc. A diversity that is already partly reflected - through snowboarding and cross-country skiing - in our current ranking. And which will occupy an even more significant place in future editions.

The January 2022 Figaro article on La Plagne

January 2022

One of the largest resorts in the Alps, the most popular in the world, has found in the blank year a springboard for virtuous development. The season has opened, boosted by a host of new features. A model!

Giant of the Alps at the foot of the snow, La Plagne is a war machine on the ski front. With 2.5 million days skied, the highest attendance in the world, 56,000 beds, 600 instructors and 700 employees on a ski area crisscrossed by a hundred ski lifts, the resort plays in the league of the very, very big ones… Fortunately, La Plagne is not a ski factory.

Spread over 11 sites, a destination created from scratch, inaugurated sixty years ago (1961) and organized into a single intercommunality, it piles up styles. Buildings in Plagne-Bellecôte, chalets in Plagne 1800, small charming residences in Belle Plagne, Aime-La Plagne, mountain village in Montalbert and Champany-en-Vanoise… Each one has its own architecture, its own history, its own difference.

September 2021

As part of a wedding in Haute Savoie last summer, we had the chance to spend a few days at Chalet Les Cerises. This chalet is located on the heights of Cordon, about ten minutes from the Combloux ski resort.

This chalet simply offers one of the most magnificent views you can have of Mont Blanc. Located at an altitude of 950 meters, this carefully decorated chalet has a long balcony offering you a more than breathtaking view. A perfect place for a long romantic weekend or a quiet week's vacation.
