Planning our winter holiday has always been a big event in our family. 

For several years now, we've been going on winter vacations together: children, parents, grandparents, cousins... a real family tribe. But organizing a ski trip for 13 people, ranging in age from 6 to 72, was a real challenge every year. 

This year, after hours of research, we found our rare gem: Chalet Dakota in La Plagne 1800 — and it was the best decision we’ve made in years.  Let us tell you why this place is much more than just a rental.

A true family-friendly chalet in the heart of the Alps

From the moment we walked in, we knew we had found a rare gem. Warm wooden interiors, high ceilings, a huge fireplace, and panoramic windows that opened onto snow-covered trees... Chalet Dakota felt like a home, not a rental.

Each of our children had their own room — and their own space to play and unwind after a day on the slopes. And as parents, we finally had time and space to relax and reconnect, thanks to the layout that cleverly balances shared and private areas.

Ski-in/Ski-out = real freedom with children

One of our priorities was to make the ski experience easy with kids. And Chalet Dakota delivered.

Located in La Plagne 1800, we could literally ski from the door. No long walks in ski boots, no waiting for shuttles — just gear up and go. The ESF meeting point was a 3-minute ski away, making morning drop-offs smooth and stress-free.

Afternoons were just as easy: we’d come back for lunch, or take turns enjoying a sauna session while the kids built snowmen outside the chalet.

Comfort & space – finally, a chalet that ticks all the boxes

We’ve rented many “luxury chalets” in the past, but few truly deliver. Chalet Dakota exceeded our expectations.

• 7 comfortable bedrooms, each with an en-suite

• A spacious open-plan kitchen where we could all cook together

• A sauna that became our daily ritual

• A beautiful fireplace where we’d relax every evening

• A fully equipped boot room with heated dryers (no more soggy boots!)

Everything was thoughtfully designed and spotlessly clean — from the bedding to the fully stocked kitchen. We even found two raclette machine ready for family dinners!

True independence, just the right amount of service

As a family, we prefer having our own rhythm. Chalet Dakota allowed us to be totally independent while offering optional services on demand: linen, cleaning, ski hire delivery, even grocery delivery before arrival.

Laurent appreciated being able to park our car right outside and not touch it for a week. I loved that we could prepare meals together or order in when we felt like relaxing more.

A chalet where everyone feels at home

For us, what truly made the experience unique was how everyone felt comfortable and at ease. Our kids (today parents) had their own routines, their space. Our grand children even made friends with the kids next door.

The layout of the chalet, with its mix of cozy corners and communal spaces, meant that we could all enjoy time together and apart. Whether it was a puzzle by the fire, hot chocolate on the terrace, or a movie night downstairs — we created memories that will last a lifetime.
