Choosing your base in La Plagne means choosing between eleven unique atmospheres, spread across a dizzying vertical drop from 1,250m to 2,100m. Within the Paradiski domain, the second-largest linked ski area in the world, each village has its own DNA, architecture, and relationship with the mountain.
As owners of Chalet Dakota in La Plagne 1800, we have been roaming these peaks for decades. This highly detailed guide was designed to help you decode the subtleties of each sector. Whether you are looking for the urban bustle of Plagne Centre, the wooded charm of Montalbert, or the architectural boldness of Aime 2000, we provide an unfiltered analysis and our secret addresses for a premium Alpine experience.

Founded in 1961, Plagne Centre is the resort's birthplace. Perched at 1,970 metres, this village was designed as an "integrated resort": everything is accessible via covered walkways, allowing you to go from the pharmacy to the ski school or shops without ever being exposed to the elements.
It is the true nerve centre of La Plagne. Here you will find the Place de la Cheminée, the main ski schools (ESF and Oxygène), and a monumental snow front where numerous slopes converge. It is the ideal sector for those who want everything at their fingertips: shopping, administrative services, and direct links via the Funiplagne to reach Grande Rochette (2,505m).

Located at a strategic altitude of 1,800 metres, this village is the former mining hamlet of La Plagne. Today, it embodies the resort’s "cocoon," favouring traditional wood and stone chalet architecture, far from the large-scale housing developments.
This is where the heart of Chalet Dakota beats. Plagne 1800 charms with its tranquillity and immediate proximity to the pine trees. In the morning, access to the ski area is exceptionally smooth thanks to the Mélèzes chairlift and the 1800 chairlift, allowing you to reach Plagne Centre or Bellecôte in just a few minutes.

If you are looking for the perfect balance for a group getaway, La Plagne 1800 is undeniably the "cocoon" of the resort. Unlike the more urban or mineral high-altitude sites, this village has retained an authentic soul thanks to its traditional wood and stone chalet architecture, nestled among the pine trees. It is the ideal place for those who want the peace of a real mountain village without sacrificing access to the Paradiski domain or the services of a major resort.
Here is why our guests consistently choose this sector:
1. A Unique "Chalet" Atmosphere La Plagne 1800 is the resort's former mining hamlet. People come here for a true "home away from home" experience. For a group of friends or a family, renting a chalet here allows everyone to gather around a large table or a wood-burning stove, far from the anonymity of large residences. It is a village on a human scale where it is easy to get around on foot.
2. Absolute Simplicity for Ski Logistics It is one of the best-kept secrets: from La Plagne 1800, access to the heart of the ski area is incredibly smooth. Thanks to the Mélèzes and 1800 chairlifts, you can reach Plagne Centre or Aime 2000 in just a few minutes. In the evening, the return is often ski-in via forest-lined slopes—a far more poetic experience than ending your day on a concrete snow front.
3. Everything Within Reach, with Added Tranquillity The village is perfectly equipped: a SPAR supermarket for your chalet groceries, a small bakery, expert sports shops like Intersport or Ski Set, several bars (La Mine, La Cantine), and renowned restaurants (Le Loup Blanc, Le Petit Chaperon Rouge). Families particularly appreciate the ESF meeting point located right in the village. And if you want to head out to Plagne Centre, it is a 15-minute walk through the forest, or you can take the free shuttles running until midnight, offering total freedom without ever needing your car.
In summary, La Plagne 1800 offers the luxury of space and serenity while remaining connected to the second-largest ski area in the world. It is the winning compromise for those who prioritise the quality of shared moments.
Often cited as one of the resort's most beautiful villages, Belle Plagne (2050m) successfully combines the efficiency of a high-altitude resort with traditional Savoyard aesthetics. Here, stone-tiled roofs and wooden facades dominate. The village is entirely pedestrianised, with underground parking, giving it a peaceful and safe atmosphere for families. It is also the starting point for the Via Ferrata des Bourtes.
Directly connected to Plagne Bellecôte by a free gondola open until midnight, Belle Plagne is a village that exudes serenity and high-end appeal.

Designed at an altitude of 1,930 metres, Plagne Bellecôte is the resort's logistical crossroads. This is the departure point for the main gondola heading toward Roche de Mio and the glacier (3,250m). It also serves as the central hub for catching inter-village shuttle buses and reaching the Montchavin sector via the Arpette chairlift.
Its functional architecture makes it the favourite village for avid skiers looking to maximise their time on the slopes. It is also home to the outdoor heated swimming pool (kept at 29°C), a true staple of the La Plagne après-ski scene.

Dominating the entire resort at 2,100 metres, Aime 2000 (also known as Plagne Aime 2000) is an architectural feat designed by Michel Bezançon. Listed as a "20th-century Heritage" site, this unique building, nicknamed the "Paquebot des Neiges" (Snow Liner), houses apartments, shops, and services within a self-contained structure facing Mont Blanc.
The highlight of Aime 2000 is undoubtedly its 360° panorama. It is also the gateway to the Montalbert and La Roche sectors. Thanks to the Télémétro (a free cable link), you can reach Plagne Centre in just 5 minutes, offering total flexibility between high-altitude serenity and central resort life.

Little known to the general public, the La Roche sector is nonetheless one of the most fascinating. Located below Aime 2000, it is home to the only Bobsleigh track in France, a legacy of the 1992 Albertville Olympics, which will also host the Bobsleigh, Luge, and Skeleton events for the 2030 Olympic Games. It is a place steeped in history and adrenaline.
Access to the slopes is via the La Roche chairlift, which takes you directly back toward Aime 2000. It is an ideal area for those seeking absolute peace and direct access to nature, far from the bustle of the high-altitude resorts.

Located at 1,350 metres, Plagne Montalbert is the ultimate family village. Here, skiing is mostly through the forest, sheltered from wind and fog, making it a strategic retreat on bad weather days. The village has retained an authentic soul, with its wooden chalets and village-resort atmosphere.
Thanks to the recently installed ultra-fast gondola, you can reach the summit of Fornelet in a few minutes, opening the gates to the rest of the ski area. It is a gentler, wilder side of the mountain, where you can often spot deer early in the morning.

This sector brings together two sites: Montchavin (1250m), a beautifully restored former agricultural village, and Les Coches (1450m), created in the 1980s following the traditional wood and stone architectural styles. This is where the Vanoise Express departs—the giant cable car that connects La Plagne to Les Arcs.
Skiing here means enjoying breathtaking views of Mont Blanc and the Haute-Tarentaise valley. It is a popular sector for the quality of its snow, its accessibility, and its direct link to the other side of Paradiski. However, please note that the slope is north-facing, so you will find very little sun here.

Whether you wish to visit Aime 2000 for its iconic architecture, Belle Plagne for its Savoyard atmosphere, or head down to the Bobsleigh track in La Roche, the system of shuttles and cable links transports you from morning until late at night between all the villages of La Plagne.
Our chalets are located approximately 250m on foot from the Rond-Point stop (on flat ground). This stop is at the heart of the La Plagne shuttle network, providing very easy access by shuttle to all the other resorts in La Plagne.
Booking direct allows you to avoid platform commissions (approx. 15%) and benefit from the lowest possible rate.
